Lieutenant Colonel Remigiusz Michoń

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Ambitious - Sociable – Experienced

I am open to new challenges, ambitious, respecting the opinion of others. Working in a team is crucial for me in the context of achieving new professional goals. During my service, I have been appointed to various positions abroad, in operations such as KFOR, ISAF, and in command of the NATO Response Force EOD Company, directly reporting to the Eurocorps in Strasbourg. Moreover, in the years 2013 to 2016 I have shared my knowledge through the NATO courses in the military engineering domains as Chief Instructor at the Center of Excellence in Ingolstadt. Despite 25 years in the service, I am still determined to work hard and am looking for new and interesting career challenges. One of them is the service at JSEC. The greatest support in my service are my wife and children who give me strength, faith and power to be an even better soldier, father and husband.

What makes your home country special for you?

Solidarity - Hospitality – Cuisine

Poland is a tolerant country, feeling solidarity with the poverty of others and being open to those who come here in the hope of a better life. Solidarity in my opinion as a Pole and a soldier is pride; it is suffering and hope. I have grown up in this spirit over the years; my family and me are shaped by these values. Poland is a country where everyone can feel good, where everyone who respects the Polish tradition, culture and rules of life will find "their piece of the floor". For centuries, thanks to the unique multiculturalism of my country, Polish cuisine has been versatile and specific features of Polish cuisine have been shaped by historical changes. The most popular Polish dishes include dumplings, groats, noodles, stuffed cabbage, pork chop, ground cutlet, bigos, meat jelly, pork knuckle and a huge variety of soups. Proposing these delicacies, I invite everyone to come to Poland or to see me at the Polish table during the International Day – unfortunately, this year it is impossible!

What is your impression of Ulm in three words?

Green - Multiculturalism – Danube

This is my second time living in this region of Germany with my family. Despite this, I am still impressed by the beautiful green landscapes stretching along the Danube River; I am also still impressed by the green policy of Ulm, which manifests itself in every aspect of our lives, be it the extensive network of bicycle paths, public transport or the system of waste separation and disposal. What is more, multiculturalism manifested in the culture, multi-layered cuisine of the region with a significant influence of the East.

How would you describe JSEC in three words?

Challenge - Young - Relevant

JSEC, a new child growing up in the arms of other well-established and known NATO Headquarters. All of us JSEC soldiers are creating something new, something crucial from the point of view of NATO policy. We are part of a project that will affect a stable, free and secure Europe in the future. We are facing enormous infrastructural challenges, challenges related to building relationships with other NATO headquarters and finally challenges in creating something bearing the hallmarks of a well-coordinated, brave and ambitious team. As newcomers, we have to assert ourselves among serious players in the market known as NATO and the EU. However, the fact that we are a young command gives us the opportunity to create and shape our environment in innovative ways. By using our invaluable human potential, we will finally be able to form a structure that will meet the future challenges posed by NATO for JSEC by nature, professionalism and freshness.

What makes JSEC special to you?

Partnership – Possibilities – Teamwork

For me, JSEC not only means the opportunity to work in a multinational environment, not only the opportunity to develop and fulfill my professional dreams and challenges. JSEC can be the beginning of something essential. JSEC is a team of people with passion, ambition and clearly defined priorities. JSEC is a team that, by building strong internal relations, will be ready to achieve future goals at the highest level. JSEC is a team of people who decided to take part in a difficult, demanding, but at the same time interesting and innovative project.

I am and I want to be part of this team.
