How would you describe yourself in three words?

Eager to learn - Ambitious - Adaptable

In my opinion, being eager to learn means being a person who wants to be better qualified, better prepared for new challenges, up to date with changes and developments in the professional environment. I consider that being open to continuous learning is the only way of making my dreams come true. In addition, learning enables me to see connections yet unnoticed by others, it helps me to deal with the unexpected, and it helps me to find adequate solutions. It also helps me to improve my self-confidence and it gives me more flexibility in doing things.

In my life, I experienced that nothing, or almost nothing, comes easily. Being a very ambitious person, I had to work hard to achieve my goals and objectives, and I always believed in myself.

In the 20 years of my career, I have learned to adapt quickly to new conditions. I did not always have all the resources at hand that I wanted. In the past, I often had to adapt and do my very best, to accomplish my missions or achieve my objectives.

What makes your home country special for you?

Roots - Diversity - Nature

All my memories and feelings relate to my home country. All of my friends live in Romania, almost my whole family dwells there, and my roots are deep inside my home country. Whenever I am in Romania, it helps me to reconnect with the nature and to rediscover the beauty of our world. Embracing the wisdom of the past and building new dreams, Romania gives me the opportunity to do both at the same time.

The diversity of people also comes into my mind, when I think of my home country. There are more than 20 ethnic groups spread all over the country, with their own traditions, with their own language, with their own culture. They are living together with Romanians, sharing good times and bad times. Another Romanian characteristic I admire is our determination in protecting our heritage and our traditions, preserving the very best of the past.

Another Romanian specialty is the diversity of its beautiful landscape – From the snow-capped mountains to the sandy Black Sea Beaches, from green hills covered in forests to Europe’s biggest river delta. The Danube Delta is the home of 23 different natural ecosystems, and from April to September there are more than 300 bird species, choosing the delta’s channels and lakes as their habitat.

For someone who wants to rediscover their love of nature, the Carpathian Mountains in northern Romania are the place to be. Regardless of whether you choose a beginners’ mountain trek or an advanced long-distance hike, you will enter a natural wilderness so vast that you will experience Mother Nature from a completely new perspective. Large mammals, such as the grey wolf, the brown bear or the chamois inhabit the huge forests of the Carpathians. Some 2,500 wolves and about 6,000 brown bears live there, making it one of the largest brown bear populations in Europe.

What is your impression of Ulm in three words?

Green - Relaxing - Münster

When I came to Ulm for the first time I was surprised how green everything is, and how many sports facilities and outdoor activity areas there are. I am still not used to the traffic, in a good way. I cannot believe how easy it is to get everywhere in Ulm, any important facility can be reached in 10 or maximum 15 minutes’ drive.

Walking the old town with its beautiful half-timbered houses and so many lovely restaurants with an awesome variety of food is really impressive and relaxing for me.

I like the Ulm Minster too, with its tower and with the square in front. It is a popular meeting place for residents and the location of the local food market twice a week. I like the vibrant atmosphere, when the farmers are selling their fresh fruit and vegetables grown in the region.

How would you describe JSEC in three words?

Multinational - Improving - Challenging

JSEC is growing, more and more international representatives are joining us. The opportunity to work with people from different nationalities is motivating me to do my best, to work harder, to be a part of this team.

The overall mission of JSEC is to provide SACEUR with a secure Rear Area, to support nations in their planning, execution and coordination of security, force protection and area damage control. In my opinion, JSEC is improving its interactions with partners, with nations, or with other stakeholders a lot.

This mission is challenging and it takes a lot of effort as well as time, but every member of JSEC is firmly committed to fulfill any upcoming tasks. We all work together towards the same goal, the full operational capability. Each one of us is bringing their own contribution inside their domain to improve and keep this command up and running.

What makes JSEC special to you?

Opportunity - Learning - Friendly

First of all, I am honored to have the opportunity to represent my country at JSEC, to represent the Romanian Armed Forces in this headquarter.

Secondly, people at JSEC are very friendly, eager to help, polite, open-minded, from a variety of backgrounds. I love learning from them about different cultures and languages, and from their experiences.

It is great to cooperate and share thoughts and knowledge with various national experts, within this headquarters. Everybody is working towards the same goal, each one of us is bringing their own contribution to build this new military structure.

I am proud to be a part of JSEC!
