NATO Multinational Readiness on the March: JSEC Officers Train for Nijmegen Challenge

ULM, Germany - From April 26 to 27, three multinational officers from NATO’s Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) took part in a grueling two-day endurance march in Gifhorn, Germany - showcasing the physical readiness and multinational cooperation that lie at the core of NATO’s operational strength.
Events like these highlight not only individual endurance but also the cohesion and interoperability of allied forces in action

Lieutenant Colonel Philippe Scarabin (France), Lieutenant Colonel Karsten Klitzschmüller, and Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Urban (both Germany), trained alongside the German military delegation as part of the Bundeswehr 05 Marching Group. Dressed in full military uniform and carrying rucksacks, the officers successfully completed a total of 70 kilometers over two days.

This challenging event marked the first qualification milestone for their participation in the internationally renowned "4Days Marches Nijmegen", scheduled for July 2025 in the Netherlands. With more than 5,000 military participants expected from around the globe, the Nijmegen March is a prestigious symbol of physical resilience, discipline, and allied unity.

The next step in their selection process will take place in Bern, Switzerland, at the end of May, where the officers must complete another demanding test: two consecutive days of 40 km marches.

As JSEC continues to support NATO’s strategic depth and operational mobility across Europe, events like these highlight not only individual endurance but also the cohesion and interoperability of allied forces in action. The training underscores NATO’s commitment to readiness - on the battlefield and beyond.
