A Three-Year Journey Comes to a Close: Reflecting on Success and Transition as Chief of Staff at JSEC

ULM, Germany - On October 17, 2024, the Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) marks a significant transition as Lieutenant General Kai Rohrschneider, Commander of JSEC, handed over the responsibilities of Chief of Staff from Major General Richard Laurijssen to Brigadier General Detlev Simons.

In his farewell address, outgoing Chief of Staff Major General Laurijssen reflected on the immense journey of nearly three years. "Three years filled with intense exercises and events," he remarked. Amidst countless experiences, he highlighted one central theme: the interaction and dedication of the JSEC personnel. "JSEC’s success is a team effort. You are the team – and I want to thank you all for your trust, your patience, and your loyalty," he expressed.

Lieutenant General Kai Rohrschneider acknowledged the pivotal role of the Chief of Staff in his address, and praising especially Laurijssen´s ability to unite personnel from various nations and make tough decisions when it counted: "You were able to make unpopular and tough decisions, which is a true mark of leadership."

Brigadier General Detlev Simons, transitioning from NATO HQ to JSEC, shared his vision for the future. "I will visit all of you to understand your challenges and motivations," he promised to the JSEC personnel. Emphasizing the critical role of JSEC in NATO’s strategy, he affirmed, "Enablement and sustainment are essential for credible deterrence and defence."
