Commanding General V Corps U.S. Army visits Joint Support and Enabling Command in Ulm

Ulm, Germany, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 – Lieutenant General John S. Kolasheski visited JSEC in order to establish direct contact between the two headquarters. V Corps will be a major participant in the US-led exercise Defender Europe 21, planned to take place in the Balkan and Black Sea regions from May until June 2021. In May, JSEC will take part in the NATO-led exercise Steadfast Defender 2021 which is associated and alongside Defender Europe 21.

Lieutenant General Jürgen Knappe, JSEC Commander, welcomed him in the Wilhelmsburg Barracks, “I am very much looking forward to our future cooperation!”

JSEC will establish a functional and reliable network

During his visit, Kolasheski was informed about current developments and the preparation status of JSEC’s evaluation exercise Steadfast Defender 2021. Lieutenant General Knappe underlined, “JSEC will establish a functional and reliable network, which is designed to enable, preserve and demonstrate the preparation, deployment, reinforcement and sustainment of NATO Forces in Europe.”

The V Corps Headquarters, established in 2020 in Fort Knox, Kentucky, consists of approximately 635 soldiers, of which a portion is positioned at a forward command post in Poznan, Poland, on a rotational basis. Its primary mission is to synchronize and enhance the interoperability between U.S. Army, allied forces, and partner nations in Europe to promote regional stability and security.
