Educational, Intense, Fun - Ten Weeks Internship in the Public Affairs Office

ULM, Germany - My name is Tino Tiefenbacher, I am an officer designate in the German Air Force, studying management and media at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. During the summer break, I took the opportunity of a ten weeks internship at the NATO Joint Support and Enabling Command.

At the beginning of my internship, I had certain expectations about what I would like to see and learn as an intern. These expectations were all met. I was given the chance to familiarize thoroughly with the existing structures and working methods and always found a sympathetic ear for any of my questions. From the beginning, I was offered a lot of freedom to organize my workload on my own, so I was able to develop independently and test my skills. Particularly, the teamwork in the Public Affairs Office will remain a positive memory for me.

The teamwork will remain a positive memory for me...

Undoubtedly, the highlight of my internship was the contribution to a huge international military congress celebrating JSEC's Full Operational Capability, where I was tasked with live reporting on a social media channel with another intern.

For all future interns, my recommendation is to be inquisitive and to work hard. Without a decent amount of initiative you will not be successful in an editorial environment like the Public Affairs Office. However, you should always keep the fun of working in a team in your mind. Especially in stressful situations – such as the Full Operational Capability event – enjoying the things you do and cooperating with your teammates always helps solving the toughest challenges.
