Finally the day has come - JSEC dives deep into Steadfast Defender 2021

Ulm, Germany, Wednesday 12 May 2021 – After countless hours, days, weeks and months of preparation, the staff members of the Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) are very much looking forward to finally putting their concepts and plans into action.

The table-top part of NATO’s flagship exercise Steadfast Defender 2021 will take part in Ulm, Germany. It is aimed to train and test the ability of JSEC to coordinate the speedy movement of Allied forces and equipment across European borders.

“We will coordinate the NATO and national troop movements across the Alliance in all directions, 360°,” explained Lieutenant General Jürgen Knappe, JSEC Commander.

Some 300 personnel are involved in this part of the exercise, including many augmentees, exercise control and evaluation personnel from other NATO entities, e.g. the Joint Warfare Center in Stavanger, Norway, or the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium.

Steadfast Defender 2021 will be the first large-scale test of the Alliance’s adapted Command Structure, with the involvement of two new NATO commands – the JSEC, based in Ulm, Germany, focused on enablement and reinforcement, and the Joint Force Command Norfolk, based in the United States, focused on the Atlantic Sea.
