Ulm, Germany, 4 February 2021 – German Army Colonel Klaus Nebe, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Support Directorate of the Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) took part as a speaker in this year’s online version of the International Armoured Vehicles Conference (IAV).

Retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, former Commanding General, US Army Europe, talking to Colonel Klaus Nebe, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Support Directorate, Joint Support and Enabling Command.

The main focus of Colonel Nebe’s presentation was to explain the role of the new NATO operational level headquarters located in Ulm, Germany. He also reflected on JSEC’s particular connection to the IAV, deployment and sustainability, logistical chains, mobility, and operational level considerations in general.

JSEC is to deliver a defined, enabled and robust network for reinforcement and sustainment
NATO requires a defined, enabled and robust network for reinforcement and sustainment, from peace through crisis to conflict. JSEC will coordinate and synchronize this with all stakeholders in order to deliver and sustain forces at the appropriate speed in the required scale and against any threat in the respective area.
The International Armoured Vehicles Conference (IAV) is the world’s premier international meeting ground for all elements of the armoured community.

Technological developments enable equipment and vehicles to be as interoperable, interchangeable and modular as possible, e.g. by interoperable-platforms with reduced complexity. “Compliance with the size and the load capacity of Europe’s traffic system, particularly the railway system, is of utmost importance for a quick and reliable deployment of forces in theatre,” said Nebe.
