Hands-on-Training in Ulm teaches Protection Measures - Not only for COVID-19 virus

ULM, Germany - In our daily routine, we easily forget about the importance and the effectiveness of infection protection measures like wearing a facemask or cleaning and sanitizing our hands thoroughly. In order to raise and increase the infection protection awareness, physicians and medics of the Joint Support and Enabling Command and the Multinational Joint Headquarters Ulm conducted the first “International Infection Protection Days” in the Wilhelmsburg Barracks, Ulm, Germany.

The awareness training focused on the detailed explanation of the necessary protection measures and specific techniques to improve their effectiveness.

One of the medics taught the audience how to clean their hands as thoroughly as possible. After a short briefing, the almost 400 international trainees had the opportunity to “soap up” their hands with a special liquid. Afterwards, everybody could check the effectiveness of his or her cleaning efforts in a special box with ultraviolet light. Most of the participants felt surprised by the outcome of this personal experience and now are encouraged to clean their hands more thoroughly.

Later in the training, another physician explained why it is necessary to wear a facemask and why it is of utmost importance to use it correctly in order to prevent the spreading of all types of germs. “You can check the fitting of the facemask easily by sucking a spicy peppermint candy – when the tears start to roll down your cheeks, the mask does not fit properly”, he said.

It is essential for an effective health protection to strengthen your immune system by healthy eating and physical activities. „The most effective protection measure to take is to maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness”, said Dr. Bernd Evers, organizer and promoter of the “International Infection Protection Days”.

By complying thoroughly with the content of the training, everybody can make a significant contribution to prevent a possible second COVID-19 wave from spreading that fast and that far. As a side effect, all those measures are also well effective in preventing many other diseases, especially like the flu in the wintertime.
