Independence Day and the Largest Ancient Castle of the World in the Czech Republic

October 28, "Den vzniku samostatného československého státu" is the official name of the National Day in the Czech Republic. The date commemorates the proclamation of the Czechoslovak independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918. 

We continue to celebrate the National Days of our member Nations in 2021 by introducing one of our staff members and unveiling some facts that are usually not found in any travel guides.

Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) is a castle complex in Prague, built in the 9th century. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the largest ancient castle in the world, occupying an area of almost 70,000 square metres (750,000 square feet), at about 570 metres (1,870 feet) in length and an average of about 130 metres (430 feet) wide.
