Meet The Team Behind Steadfast Foxtrot 2024

ULM, Germany - The JSEC team aims high when it comes to the preparation and execution of wargame exercise STEADFAST FOXTROT 2024 executed from 11 to 20 September. Let’s introduce four of the main STFX24 team members and their responsibilities.

The Planner

Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Horny is leading the exercise planning team and makes sure that everything is set for a successful execution phase. "This Steadfast Foxtrot team is outstanding; every single team member is highly motivated and focused to deliver. Creating something new, an exercise NATO has never seen before and working so close with all Allies makes it all worth it", the army officer says. And what does he think about the fox in our STFX24 logo? "The fox is often described as a clever animal. I like the logo - it fits!"

The RLS Manager

In three words Commander Lars Hirland, one of two deputy responsible officers of STFX24, would describe the wargame as “unique, necessary and valuable."

Everyone of the team is highly motivated and it is great to see the will to get things done

Mastering all matters regarding real life support for the exercise, Lars ensures that before and most importantly during execution everything runs smoothly: "Everyone of the team is highly motivated and it is great to see the will to get things done."

And what is he most looking forward to during STFX24, which is starting on 11 September? "To interact will all the exercise participants from 24 NATO nations and fellow HQ and units. To see them share their experience and connect with each other is one of the many great things about STFX24. It is so important to see the NATO family standing together."

The Supporter

Warrant Officer Class One Henry Sanday (British Army) ensures that the responsible officer and core team for exercise STFX24 are best supported.

His great amount of valuable experience is only one of the assets he adds to the team. During STFX24 Henry will support the execution in making sure that everything goes as planned.

Tough tasks as there is always something that needs a little extra attention but it's all worth it: "Without the exercise series Steadfast Foxtrot we wouldn't be able to test the full capability of enablement and more importantly we would encounter snags and major delays when actually deploying troops and vital equipment to wherever needed."

The Interlocutor

Right in the middle of the exercise you can find Senior Master Sergeant Jutta Mangold who knows how to tackle real life support matters and how to make exercise participants feel comfortable and happy at JSEC. "I would say that I have quite sharp ears, just like the fox in our exercise logo, which helps me to hear things and listen closely to any issues our guests might have." If time allows, participants should make sure to also experience the city of Ulm during their stay: "It's a great place!"

Steadfast Foxtrot is the only exercise that has its main focus on the Enablement part of things

Beside the STFX24 team members from JSEC the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) also plays a very crucial part in this exercise and it has been a great pleasure so far to work closely together with Major Olivier Hochstrasser who is the responsible officer representing JSEC's superior HQ: "Steadfast Foxtrot is the only exercise that has its main focus on the Enablement part of things. Therefor it is unique in its kind. I would also like to motivate the participants to use the exercise to tackle our Enablement issues in the broader sense. This is our unique opportunity to train with all our counterparts. Together we are stronger!"
