NATO MILITARY COMMITTEE'S VISIT TO JSEC TO DISCUSS KEY ISSUES IN ENABLEMENT

ULM, Germany - the NATO Military Committee visited the Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) on 25 and 26 October 2023. The visit, hosted by the Commander of JSEC, Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, shed light on JSEC's mission, structure, challenges, and future plans. A testament to NATO's commitment to maintaining a strong and agile defence posture, it represented a welcome opportunity for NATO's highest military officials to discuss JSEC's capabilities and strategic priorities. JSEC provided an overview of its ongoing efforts to enhance the Alliance's collective defence capabilities, especially in the face of a volatile, unpredictable global security environment where readiness and adaptability are key.
This visit provides us with a platform to showcase our commitment to NATO's missions and the tireless efforts of our dedicated personnel.
Receiving the military delegation, Lieutenant General Sollfrank stated: "We are honored to welcome the NATO Military Committee to JSEC. This visit provides us with a platform to showcase our commitment to NATO's missions and the tireless efforts of our dedicated personnel. We look forward to discussing our mission, structure, and addressing the challenges we face."

The senior military officials received a comprehensive overview of how JSEC contributes to NATO's strategic objectives. Briefings also covered the main challenges faced by JSEC, with a view to foster a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in maintaining a robust and agile Alliance going forward, and –relatedly, JSEC's future strategies and initiatives.

Special focus was placed on the Reinforcement and Sustainment Network (RSN) as a critical component of NATO's rapid response capabilities. After taking stock of the progress made so far, future steps to enhance Allies’ preparedness and effectives in this domain were explored.

The discussions throughout the visit allowed the NATO HQ senior military officials to gain a better understanding of JSEC as a ‘centre of expertise’ when it comes to Enablement and Sustainment and a greater appreciation of the Command’s critical role at such a critical time for the Alliance, in a new era of collective defence.

The war against Ukraine has once again showed us the importance of logistics, sustainment and reinforcement. JSEC plays a crucial role for the execution of the DDA Family of Plans.

Reflecting on the Command’s centrality in supporting NATO’s operational readiness by accelerating, coordinating, and safeguarding the movement of allied follow-on forces across European borders, he added: “Only with effective Enablement, will we able to ensure reinforcement by forces in the quantities needed and at the speed required”.
