The Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) is tasked to enable NRF24, requiring a sequence of conferences with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Allied Command Operations (ACO) commands and various NATO nations. The Enablement Conference #2 was conducted both with participants on site as well as via video conference and provided common guidance and information on specific movement and sustainment related sub-conferences. During a workshop the participants were able to delve deeper into these focus areas and exchange experiences.

Back in October 2022, the Commander of JSEC, Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, approved a Functional Coordination Guidance which defines the objectives, processes and milestones to enable the NRF24 force element for Deployment and Sustainment.

Following this corner stone, “JSEC took over the enablement planning, coordination and synchronization tasks for NRF. This is one of the highest priority tasks for the military headquarters this year,” emphasized JSEC´s Chief of Staff, Major General Richard Laurijssen, during his welcome speech at the beginning of the Enablement Conference.

After the successful execution of the first conference last November, the second meeting additionally included the initial Movement Planning Conference and Sustainment Coordination Conference.

At the end of two days of intensive exchange, Laurijssen highlighted that “the aim during these two days was to assess and if required to adjust the Enablement process. I am very pleased that we are well on track. I am also proud of my staff that has the greatest share in JSEC playing an important role to enable NRF24 in a timely and empowered manner.”

Any Mission, Anywhere

The NATO Response Force (NRF) is a highly ready and technologically advanced multinational force. It is made up of land, air, maritime and Special Operations Forces (SOF) components that the Alliance can deploy quickly, wherever needed. In addition to its operational role, the NRF can be used for greater cooperation in education and training, increased exercises, support for disaster relief and better use of technology.

The NRF has the overarching purpose of being able to provide a rapid military response to an emerging crisis, whether for collective defence purposes or other crisis-response operations.

The NRF gives the Alliance the means to respond swiftly to various types of crises anywhere in the world. It is also a driving engine for NATO’s military transformation and provides a tangible demonstration of NATO’s cohesion and commitment to deterrence and collective defence.
