Completing the final big step towards exercise steadfast foxtrot 2024

ULM, Germany - Only eight weeks before the exercise Steadfast Foxtrot 2024 (STFX24) will be underway, the Joint Support and Enabling Command (JSEC) welcomed around 80 external participants from 16 nations and various NATO entities among others the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) - the Joint Force Commands - Allied Air, Land and Maritime Commands - United States European Command (U.S. EUCOM) and the Joint Warfare Center as designer of the wargame to the Wilhelmsburg Barracks for the Final Coordination Conference. From 16 to 18 July, participants had the opportunity to see and test the wargames up close and discuss final adjustments.

“Thank you all for your outstanding engagement during this exercise preparation phase. The Steadfast Foxtrot wargame in September is of utmost importance to JSEC as, for the first time, it will include such a high number of NATO nations. It’s a great opportunity to strengthen our cooperation and especially to exercise all of JSEC’s three core tasks of Enablement, Reinforcement by Forces and Sustainment,” emphasized JSEC’s Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Major General Dirk Kipper, during his welcome remarks.

One Exercise - Three Wargames

After initial execution in November 2023, STFX24 will consist of three separate wargames in the first week (11 to 14 September) and a Senior Leader Seminar in week two (17 and 18 September).

For the first time, the Joint Warfare Center created a Medical Wargame which allows JSEC and all other participants to exercise the patient flow management processes across the entire Allied Command Operations (ACO) community. This game will put the theory of the new SHAPE patient flow management guideline into practice and will ultimately exercise the management and optimization of patient movements through close collaboration of all 32 NATO nations.

At the same time, STFX24 will include a Sustainment Flow wargame which will allow JSEC and the other exercise participants to train their cooperation and coordination throughout the Supreme Allied Commander Europe’s (SACEUR) Area of Responsibility (AOR) and enhance and test sustainability of NATO forces wherever they are deployed.

Finally, STFX24 will also offer a Regional Plans wargame, focusing on testing NATO’s new defence plans and the interaction with the Allied Reaction Force (ARF) which forms a critical component of the new NATO Force Model (NFM).

Next Stop: Exercise Execution

With only two months to go, STFX24 is just around the corner.

Stay tuned to get to know the people “behind STFX24” and their stories and, of course, don’t miss the exercise coverage here on the website, as well as on JSEC’s Social Media channels.
